This week is a really honest post about where I am at with my fitness journey! I have been struggling lately and I know I am not the only person feeling this way. If I can encourage anyone with my story, then that is enough to help me get through this slump as well. So, this week, I am saying SO WHAT if you have a bad week or two?!?!
I want to be straight with you guys...Last month was rough!
- I had a birth control issue and basically had a 3 week period and then I started my period. Sorry to all the guys reading this, but being a girl sucks and I am not ashamed to throw it out there! I felt like crap all month and I felt really worn out the whole time.
- I have said it before, but I have lots of food allergies and I have had lots of trouble again recently. I don't know if I am becoming allergic to something new or if something I am eating is contaminated. I feel bloated constantly so no matter how much weight is lost I still feel huge! I don't have health insurance right now, so I cannot go to a doctor at the moment...trial and error I guess.
- I was doing double spin classes and lots of workouts toward the end of Summer since I knew Fall was going to get really busy! I also had a groupon to the local gym, over the summer, but can't afford to pay their yearly membership fees at the moment, so I was trying to take advantage of the classes there! I was exhausted, but pushing through until I started to get knee pain in both knees. I think it was just over use, but the only way to heal tendonitis is ice, Ibuprofen, and rest.
- I also started back to work. Going from very little signing all Summer to a full week is difficult on the body! My wrists and elbows hurt like crazy and shoulders don't feel great.
- Oh, I forgot to say I am starting to catch a cold today so I guess I just needed one more obstacle to tackle!
Saying that things are rough might be an understatement, but I am trying to get back on track! It just feels like it takes so long to get any improvements, but as soon as you slow down for a second, it feels like you take a hundred steps backward!
Shaun T. (fitness instructor and creator of T25 and Insanity) posts on his Facebook page daily. I recommend you like his page if you need any kind of fitness support/motivation. Just when I was getting really frustrated, this was one of his posts...
The picture on the left is when I started the Insanity program last time (I had already been working out some, but still not toned much at all) and the picture on the right wasn't the end of the program, but probably the 4th check in/fit-test day. I really started to see results.
These were taken August 25, 2014 I was feeling really in shape about 2 weeks before this but that's when all of the above started going crazy! I decided I needed a boot camp... I need Shaun T to get me through this slump so I am starting Insanity again and this was after my first fit-test.
I will do the Insanity program most of the time, but occasionally I will sub in some spinning or cycling. I still have to modify a few of the moves for my knees, but doing something is much better than nothing! Weights are an important addition to the program so I will do my best to continue those on top of the videos.
Remember fitness is a lifestyle; it is okay to feel like you're slacking and want to improve, but listen to your body and only push it to a level that is safe and healthy! A week is not going to take you back to square one!
